§ 32. Mr. FrenchTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will introduce legislation to stipulate that the only types of telephone permitted to be used by the driver of a car whilst in motion are those equipped with voice-activated dialling.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyOur advice is clear: anyone who can afford a car phone can afford a hands-free microphone.
Current legislation already places the responsibility on drivers to have proper control of their vehicles at all times. A driver who fails to do so as a result of distraction or lack of concentration is liable to prosecution.
There are no plans to introduce legislation to stipulate the type of car telephones permitted to be used.
