§ Mr. Teddy TaylorTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the current international price of sugar; and what subsidy is offered for the export of surplus sugar, expressed in pounds per tonne.
§ Mr. Donald Thompson[holding answer 16 June 1988]: On 8 June 1988 the London daily price for white sugar (which is representative of world prices) was £146.9 per tonne. On the same day the EC sugar management committee approved a maximum export refund for Community sugar of 424.9 ecu per tonne which, if the sugar was exported from the United Kingdom, would be equivalent to £267.4 net of the current MCA.
