HC Deb 17 June 1988 vol 135 c336W
Mrs. Fyfe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what information he has on the amount of disciplinary action against(a) male and (b) female prisoners; and what proportion of such disciplinary action in each case was for the mutiny or violence category of offence.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The latest available information on numbers and types of disciplinary offences by inmates is given in appendix 5 of the "Prisons in Scotland—Report for 1986" (Cm. 223), copies of which are available in the Library.

In 1986 there were no disciplinary findings or punishments on inmates for the offence of "mutiny". There is no category of offence of "violence". Figures are given in the "Prisons in Scotland" report for specific offences of assaulting officers or assaults on other inmates, and for the general offence of "offending against good order and discipline" which may include other acts of violence such as fighting.
