To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will publish a table showing the take-up of family income supplement in 1985, broken down into(a) the total likely to be entitled to benefit, (b) the proportion receiving benefit, (c) the numbers not receiving benefit, (d) the estimated amount of benefit unclaimed and (e) the average weekly amount unclaimed;

(2) if he will publish a table showing the take-up of supplementary benefit in 1985, broken down into (a) the total likely to be entitled to benefit, (b) the proportion receiving benefit, (c) the numbers not receiving benefit,(d) the estimated amount of benefit unclaimed and (e) the average weekly amount unclaimed, broken down into pensioners, sick and disabled, unemployed, families with children and one parent families.

The latest take-up estimates for supplementary benefit are for 1983 and those for family income supplement are for 1983–84. A convenient summary is shown on pages 272 and 273 of the 1988 public expenditure White Paper (Cm. 288). More detailed technical reports are available in the Library.
