HC Deb 16 June 1988 vol 135 cc249-50W
Mr. Murphy

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what special measures his Department is taking to monitor the disposal, at the ReChem international plant at Pontypool, of the toxic waste which will be imported from Switzerland in the next few weeks.

Mr. Grist

I have been asked to reply.

Any wastes entering the United Kingdom from other countries are subject to the same controls as home-produced wastes. Operations at the ReChem plant, Pontypool are regulated by the Health and Safety Executive, Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution, Torfaen borough council and the Welsh water authority.
