HC Deb 16 June 1988 vol 135 c278W
Ms. Harman

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will issue a circular on the notification of meningitis.

Mrs. Currie

The Department's chief medical officer, Sir Donald Acheson, wrote to all doctors in England about meningitis on 3 February, emphasising that it is a statutory requirement under the Public Health (Control of Diseases) Act 1984 for cases of meningitis to be notified to the proper officer, usually the medical officer for environmental health. A copy of the letter is in the Library.
