HL Deb 13 June 1988 vol 498 c142WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the coroner's inquest on the three members of the IRA killed in Gibraltar has been postponed, and if so, until when; and whether they will ensure that it is held at the earliest possible date.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Glenarthur)

The date of the inquest is a matter for the Gibraltar coroner. He announced on 23rd May that the inquest would not now open on 27th June. The British Government want the inquest to be held as soon as possible and the coroner is aware of this. We have requested him to hold, in the near future, a preliminary hearing at which the date of the inquest, and other arrangements relating to the inquest, can be agreed.
