To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the number of(a) hospitals, (b) antenatal clinics, (c) casualty wards and (d) geriatric units that have been closed since 1979.

It is important to note that closures may be offset or balanced by openings or reprovision elsewhere. The number of units or facilities approved for closure between 1979 and end 1986 is as follows:

The number of antenatel clinics within the maternity units at (b) is not known.

We expect figures for the year 1987 to be available in the near future.
