§ Mr. McLoughlinTo ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he plans any future initiatives to promote energy efficiency in the home; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonMy Department's Energy Efficiency Office, in collaboration with the Building Societies Association, is now launching a new initiative to help building societies to promote energy efficiency to their customers.
For the purpose of this initiative, the Energy Efficiency Office and the Building Societies Association have together published a new leaflet, "Monergy in Your New Home", which building societies will be able to make available to 632W their new and existing borrowers. The leaflet gives basic information on energy efficiency measures and finance, and invites the householder to ask the Energy Efficiency Office for a monergy pack. The pack gives more detailed advice, including a home energy survey checklist and a set of energy saving guides. I am placing a copy of the leaflet and the pack in the Library of the House.
I very much welome this new initiative, and I am grateful to the Building Societies Association and the participating building societies for making it possible.
