To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will state the number of new jobs produced by the work of the Local Enterprise Development Unit.

In the year ended March 1988, the Local Enterprise Development Unit entered into contracts with companies to assist 4,570 jobs. Of this total, 523 related to the development of existing jobs and 4,047 to proposals for the creation of new employment. These results bring the overall total of jobs assisted since the unit's inception in 1971 to 35,271.
