TaylorTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the estimated cost of the investigations by(a) the Fair Employment Agency and (b) the Northern Ireland Commissioner for complaints into the 40 cases of complaints about selection and promotion of staff in further education colleges during the past five years.
§ Mr. ViggersThe Fair Employment Agency estimates the total cost of its 12 completed investigations at £24,000. Two further cases are pending and are expected to cost some £4,000.
The office of the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Complaints does not hold information in a form which would enable it to provide a meaningful estimate of the cost of investigation of individual complaints.

§ Dr. MawhinneyThe selection and promotion of lecturing staff in further education colleges are matters for the management committees of the colleges and education and library boards operating within schemes approved by the Department of Education. There has been no recent revision of these schemes.
