§ Mr. Austin MitchellTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will publish in theOfficial Report the amount of (a) floating debt and (b) national debt outstanding at the end of the year 1987–88, the interest paid in 1987–88 in each case and the money supply in banking March.
§ Mr. LilleyThe national debt is provisionally estimated at 31 March 1988 as £197,295 million, of which £11,725 million is the provisional figure for floating debt. Interest paid on the national debt in 1987–88 was £16,233 million; including £924 million on floating debt. Full details will be given in the Consolidated Fund and national loans fund accounts and supplementary statements 1987–88, which will be published in December.
Money supply statistics have been reported on a calendar rather than banking month basis since October 1986. They are published in Financial Statistics table 11.1.
