§ Mrs. MahonTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) if he will make representations to the United States Government concerning the implications for the possibility of a peaceful settlement in Nicaragua of the Administration's policy of support for the contras while that organisation remains committed to the use of violence; and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he will make representations to the United States administration urging them not to resume lethal aid to the contras in Nicaragua.
§ Mrs. ChalkerWe have regular discussions with the United States administration on a wide range of issues including Central America. They are well aware of our support for a peaceful negotiated solution to the region's problems.
§ Mrs. MahonTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make representations to the United States Administration urging them to remove economic sanctions against Nicaragua.
§ Mrs. ChalkerUnited States economic policy towards Nicaragua is a matter for the two Governments concerned. We have normal economic relations with Nicaragua.
