Our plans have been to renew 80 miles of motorway in each of the years 1988–89 and 1989–90, at a cost of £102 million in 1988–89. We are considering the effect of the rephasing of capital maintenance works announced in my answer to my hon. Friend the Member for Hornchurch (Mr. Squire) on 20 June.
The figures for individual motorways in the original programme of major renewal schemes for 1988–89 are set out in the table; minor schemes are not included. The programme for 1989–90 has not yet been drawn up.
