HC Deb 28 July 1988 vol 138 cc582-3W
Mr. Steen

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make it his policy to put advance notices in the local press and in post offices, similar to those warnings given on live firing days, when mock battles using blank ammunition, flares, explosions and thunder flashes are planned by his Department on Dartmoor.

Mr. Freeman

The advance notification on live firing on Dartmoor range is intended to warn the public of the closure of these areas for safety reasons and is a requirement under the byelaws. Training or range areas are not closed when the training taking place involves no live firing as this does not constitute a danger to the public; there is, therefore, no need to give advance notice to the public of this form of training.
