§ Mr. Norman LamontI assume the hon. Member is referring to the fact that the company car scales do not fully reflect the value to an employee of having the private use of a company car. Despite the doubling of the scales for 1988–89, that continues to be the case, by a substantial margin, as my right hon. Friend indicated in his Budget statement. But it is not possible to estimate any additional tax yield from changes without detailed assumptions about the level of each of the scales and the extent to which the rules which currently relate to them would continue to apply.
