HC Deb 27 July 1988 vol 138 c306W
Mr. Allan Stewart

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received concerning the future of denominational single sex schools in Strathclyde region; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

We received over 400 letters about the proposed closure of Our Lady and St. Francis school and over 3,000 about the proposed closure of Notre Dame high school, Glasgow. Both are denominational girls' schools. In the case of Notre Dame the Secretary of State refused consent to the proposal; but the proposal to close Our Lady and St. Francis was not one which required his consent.
