HC Deb 26 July 1988 vol 138 c238W
Mr. David Porter

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment his Department has made of the availability of landfill sites for disposal of household, industrial and toxic waste to the end of the century; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moynihan

At present rates of mineral extraction and waste disposal by landfill, rather more void space is created each year than is required for landfill. Not all voids are suitable for use or landfill and they are unevenly spread throughout the country. In general, however, we do not expect there to be a shortage of void space for the disposal of United Kingdom waste.
