To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he is now able to review the potential of further high technology military equipment sales to middle eastern countries following the recent announcement of major new defence contracts with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

We, of course, keep under constant review the potential for defence sales to the middle east as elsewhere. We therefore support the companies concerned in their pursuit of all potential sales opportunities where these are consistent with Government policy, which takes into account political, strategic, security and humanitarian factors.
