Lord Bonham-Carter

How many unopened and unanswered letters were waiting at Lunar House on 30th June 1988.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

On 30th June there were approximately 870 unopened and unacknowledged items of mail in the immigration and nationality department. All these were applications for citizenship received since 10th June. The position has continued to improve and on 19th July there were about 250 such unopened and unacknowledged applications received since 13th July.
