HC Deb 22 July 1988 vol 137 c839W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on support for organic farming in Wales.

Mr. Peter Walker

[holding answer 18 July 1988]: Those farming organically benefit from the various agricultural support measures in the same way as other farmers, including the practical assistance given by various bodies to improve the marketing of Welsh food. In addition, the Agricultural Development and Advisory Service is equipping itself to respond to demands for specialised advice. The board of the United Kingdom register of organic food standards is also getting our full support in the task of setting standards for organic production, which is essential if organic production is to achieve its potential.
