HC Deb 22 July 1988 vol 137 c844W
Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment he has made of the extent of industrial dereliction in Stoke-on-Trent; if he will increase resources accordingly; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Trippier

The last survey of derelict land in England carried out in 1982 showed there to be 312 hectares of derelict land in Stoke-on-Trent. Since then the city council has received derelict land grants totalling some £12.6 million towards schemes designed to bring derelict land back into use.

A new survey of derelict land in England is being undertaken which will show the current extent of dereliction in the city. This information will be taken into account when considering the future level of resources to be made available for the area.
