HC Deb 21 July 1988 vol 137 cc756-7W
54. Mr. Tim Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has as to how many police officers are employed on jury protection duties at the Old Bailey on a normal working day.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that officers are deployed on Jury protection duties only as and when the need arises, so that it is not possible to provide an estimate of the numbers so deployed on a normal working day. When Jury protection is provided I understand that it requires 72 officers to cover each 24-hour period.
