[holding answer 14 July 1988]: The Scottish Arts Council is funded by the Arts Council of Great Britain which is supported by grant-in-aid from my expenditure programme. The Scottish Council's estimated expenditure in the current financial year, and its expenditures in the last three years, are as follows:

To ask the Minister for the Arts if he will give, for each year since 1970, the total Government grants given in Scotland to (i) the performing arts, (ii) music, (iii) painting, (iv) sculpture and (v) literature in 1988 terms.

The Scottish council's estimated grants in the current financial year, and its grants in the last three years, are as follows:
