To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to introduce a right of appeal for objectors to decisions by local authorities to grant planning permission.

In our response (Cm. 43) to the fifth report from the Environment Committee, Session 1985–86, we endorsed the Committee's view that it would not be appropriate to give to third parties rights to appeal against the grant of planning permission.
