HC Deb 19 July 1988 vol 137 cc572-3W
Mr. Rooker

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will request his war crimes inquiry team, during its forthcoming visit to the Soviet Union, to seek any information regarding statements given by former SS General Wilhelm Mohnke during the period he was held captive in the Soviet Union following world war 2, about the allegations of war crimes made against him at that time.

Mr. John Patten

The inquiry is concerned with allegations against persons who are now British citizens or resident in the United Kingdom. The allegations involving Wilhelm Mohnke fall outside its terms of reference, and it would not therefore be appropriate for the inquiry team to raise the case during its visit to the Soviet Union.
