To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has recently discussed with the teachers' unions the restoration of teachers' negotiating rights.

My right hon. Friend held brief discussions with the teacher unions this year about new machinery for the determination of teachers' pay and conditions, during consultation with them on the recommendations of the interim advisory committee. Further meetings are due to be held in the autumn.
