§ Mr. Chris SmithTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment which local authorities bid for extra housing investment programme allocations in 1988–89, to provide additional accommodation for the homeless, under the initiative he announced on 17 June; what additional housing investment allocation each local authority bid for under this initiative; and how many units of accommodation each local authority estimated would result, comprising(a) local authority dwellings refurbished, (b) hostel places provided by local authorities, (c) hostel places provided by housing associations and (d) other dwellings or places provided by local authorities.

My Department did not specifically seek additional bids beyond those listed in that reply. However, four authorities submitted further proposals, which are listed in the following table.
