§ Mrs. RumboldOn 1 July 1988 there were 1,142 computer work stations of all types in the Department, including Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Schools, encompassing terminals, personal microcomputers, portable computers and text processors.
The total number of staff in the Department, including HMI and all support staff was 2,474. The ratio of work stations to staff was therefore 1:2.2.
The Department has firm plans to increase the number of work stations of all types to around 1,800 over the next three years. This implies a ratio of work stations to staff of 1:1.4 by 1991.
