HC Deb 15 July 1988 vol 137 c424W
Mr. Hardy

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy how many notices have been served in respect of safety on offshore operations under the terms of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act during each of the last five years.

Mr. Peter Morrison

No prohibition or improvement notices have been issued over the last five years in respect of safety on offshore operations under the terms of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

The majority of problems highlighted during an offshore inspection are rectified before the inspector leaves the installation. Where this is not possible, the owner is required to carry out the necessary changes withing a set time limit. Any lessons to be learnt are made available to all offshore operators by means of safety notices issued by the safety directorate of my petroleum engineering division.
