§ Mr. DykesTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he is taking to ensure, following the almonella outbreak caused by powdered baby foods produced in France, that the replacement stock from the same factory is not also contaminated.
§ Mrs. CurrieThe company undertook extensive environmental cleansing and more intensive end product testing from the beginning of May 1988, and investigations386W by the French official inspection services showed no contamination with salmonella. It has therefore been agreed that withdrawn products may be replaced with those manufactured after May 1988. To date there have been no cases of salmonellosis in the United Kingdom which can be confirmed as being associated with Milupa products.
§ Mr. DykesTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if the brand of powdered baby milk which was withdrawn from the market in the United Kingdom on 4 July has been withdrawn from sale in any other European country.
§ Mrs. CurrieThe powdered baby milk which was withdrawn from the United Kingdom market on 4 July was prepared exclusively for the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, and, as far as we are aware, action has been taken in those two countries only. We have not been advised that any other European country has withdrawn supplies.
