§ 82. Mr. Michael MarshallTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what conclusions the Central Computer312W and Telecommunications Agency has reached about telecommunications services to other Government Departments in the light of the Government's evaluation of services offered by Mercury Telecommunications Ltd.
§ Mr. BrookeThe CCTA's study has shown that, given the current structure of telecommunications tariffs, Mercury will in many instances offer financial savings over British Telecom for exchange lines connected to large private telephone exchanges. For such exchanges in the Whitehall area for which it is responsible, the CCTA will be implementing a phased programme to replace half the BT exchange lines with Mercury lines.
