HC Deb 12 July 1988 vol 137 c178W
Mr. Hunter

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the working of the board and lodging regulations as they affect young people.

Mr. Portillo

Income support regulations at present provide for all boarders to receive benefit on broadly the same lines as under supplementary benefit legislation with some minor adjustments to align those provisions with the new income support scheme. From April 1989, people in ordinary board and lodging accommodation will be able to claim income support for their living expenses and housing benefit for their accommodation costs in the same way as everyone else in rented accommodation.
