§ Mr. NewtonResponsibility for carrying forward the mass media AIDS public education campaign rests with the Health Education Authority. The authority's operational plan for 1988–89 includes provision for further campaigns aimed at the general public and for specific groups in society. These will build on progress made so far in increasing public awareness of the facts about HIV and AIDS.
§ 96. Mr. YeoTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many deaths have occurred from AIDS in Britain up to the latest available date.
§ Mr. NewtonThe latest available figures show that, to the end of June this year, a total of 897 deaths of people with AIDS has been reported to the Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre and the Communicable Disease (Scotland) Unit.
