To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many people received training in Manpower Services Commissions skillcentres in the last year.

In the financial year 1987–88, the numbers of trainees starting courses in skillcentres run by the Skills Training Agency (STA) were as follows:

36,855 on Training Commission sponsored training; 50,000 on employer-sponsored training. In addition, a further 22,143 people were trained on employer's premises by the STA's mobile training service.
