§ Mr. Gordon BrownTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give the percentage and numbers of tax units in each region of Britain that will gain(a) less than £1, (b) £1 to £2, (c) £2 to £3, (d) £3 to £5, (e) £5 to £10 and (f) over £10 per week in 1988–89 in real terms from the measures announced in the Budget.
§ Mr. Norman Lamont[holding answer 10 June 1988]: Estimates of gains from the Budget changes in income tax allowances, rates and thresholds for the United Kingdom are given in the table. I regret that separate estimates for each region are not available. Estimates are based on a projection of the 1985–86 survey of personal incomes and are provisional.
