To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to the reply of 27 June, if he will list the direct telephone numbers of his Department's caseworker staff with whom applicants and their representatives may check the progress of applications; and if he will also specify the times when such calls may be made.

No. If applicants or their representatives already have correspondence from case-working staff on which, as should generally be the case, a telephone number has been included, they may call that number to check on progress. Otherwise, telephone inquiries about immigration, nationality and passport matters should be made to the telephone inquiry bureaux for those departments. Telephone inquiries about other matters for which the Home Office is responsible should be made either to the number listed in the telephone directory for the office concerned, or to the general number for the Department's headquarters' offices.
