To ask the Secretary of State for Defence on what basis it is decided when to update military uniform and equipment.

I assume that my hon. Friend is referring to items of combat clothing and personal equipment. As a general principle, any necessary improvements to items already in service are proceeded with as and when they can be accommodated in the defence programme according to their relative priority. If my hon. Friend could specify the items of clothing or equipment which he is concerned about. I would be glad to reply in detail.
