To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what financial assistance is currently provided by his Department for Falklands war widows.

Mr. Freeman

All Falklands war widows would receive benefits, as appropriate, from my Department under the terms of the armed forces pension scheme. For examples of the benefits payable I refer the hon. Members to the answer which I gave to the right hon. Member for Stoke-on-Trent, South (Mr. Ashley) on 13 January 1988 at columns323–24.

In addition, my Department also meets the travel costs for the next-of-kin to make one visit to the graves of service men who are killed while serving overseas, and are buried there, within two years of burial. This provision applied to the next-of-kin of those killed in the Falklands.
