HC Deb 26 January 1988 vol 126 c214W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what assessment he has made of the extent to which, in order to remain within cash limits, district health authorities may be obliged to implement decisions that impose a real reduction in services on the population which they serve.

Mr. Newton

I announced on 16 December, an increase in health authority allocations across the United Kingdom of over £100 million in this financial year. This step was taken because our assessment of the financial pressures facing authorities showed that they would otherwise be required to take short-term measures that would not improve health care or efficiency.
