§ Mr. Douglas HoggThe average female population of prison department establishments in each of the years 1984 to 1986 was published in table 1.4 of "Prison Statistics England and Wales 1986" (Cm. 210), a copy of which is in the Library. The provisional average population for 1987 was about 1,700. The average number of females held in police cells in 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987 was 13, 8, 41 and (provisional) 68 respectively.
