§ Mr. WigleyTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has received on the case for recognition of a supraregional service in genetic metabolic diseases; what is the Government's intention in regard to the funding of the work undertaken at Guy's hospital after next April; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. CurrieA number of representations have been made concerning the application for supraregional designation of the services for genetic metabolic diseases at Guy's hospital. An application was considered by the Supraregional Services Advisory Group in 1987. My right hon. Friend accepted the advice of the advisory group that the service did not meet the criteria for supra regional designation.
A further application for designation of these services will be considered by the advisory group this year.
The funding of the service continues to be a matter for the health authority.
