HC Deb 21 January 1988 vol 125 cc773-4W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) if there is a ballistic missile early warning system in the United Kingdom purely for United Kingdom use;

(2) whether (a) United Kingdom or (b) United States officials have initial access to information from the early warning system at RAF Fylingdales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ian Stewart

The ballistic missile early warning system at RAF Fylingdales was constructed as a joint venture by the United Kingdom and United States Governments. The system is under RAF command and control and the early warning information is disseminated in parallel to both the United Kingdom and United States authorities.
