HC Deb 20 January 1988 vol 125 c710W
Dr. Glyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will bring forward legislation to enable a charge of manslaughter to be brought against persons alleged to have caused death by dangerous driving or other motoring offences.

Mr. John Patten

The law already permits a person who kills another when driving recklessly to be charged with manslaughter. It is for the prosecution to decide on which charge to proceed in any particular case. This area of the criminal law is being examined by the road traffic law review, and we shall consider any proposals for change which may be made in its report.
