To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the percentage of women medical laboratory scientific officers working in the public health laboratory service; and what are the total numbers of women so employed.

There were 475 women medical laboratory scientific officers employed in the public health laboratory service at 30 September 1987, representing 50.5 per cent. of all MLSOs in PHLS.
