HC Deb 18 January 1988 vol 125 cc564-5W
Mr. William Powell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will list in theOfficial Report in relation to the Corby district (a) the amount of derelict land in the Corby district, identified in the survey of 1982, (b) the amount of derelict land which was identified as capable of justifying reclamation and (c) the amount of land in fact reclaimed since 1982;

(2) how much Government funding has been contributed to the Corby district council for derelict land reclamation in each year since 1980; and how many acres have been reclaimed in each year.

Mr. Trippier

The 1982 derelict land survey identified 218 hectares (538 acres) of derelict land in the district of Corby, of which 216 hectares (533 acres) justified reclamation. Some 90 hectares (222 acres) have been reclaimed since 1982.

Government resources have been allocated to Corby district council to allow expenditure on derelict land reclamation as follows:

£ million
1980–81 0.5
1981–82 0.8
1982–83 3.1
1983–84 3.3
1984–85 3.5
1985–86 3.6
1986–87 3.8
1987–88 3.7

Derelict land grant is payable to meet 100 per cent. of the eligible costs incurred by the Council on reclamation. Because of the continuous nature of land reclamation works in Corby, it is not possible to identify the area of derelict land reclaimed each year.
