To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the estimated cost of road traffic accidents to the National Health Service in 1986.

The estimated cost to the National Health Service of treating road accident victims in 1986 is not yet available. However, the figure for the previous year, 1985, has been estimated at £124 million in England.
