To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what had been the longest time a person had been held in prison awaiting trial as of 31 October.

[holding answer 17 December 1987]: According to such information as is held centrally, the longest period a person has been held in custody on 31 October awaiting or during his trial was just over 15 months. The trial was completed on 10 December 1987.
