§ Mr. Matthew TaylorTo ask the Secretary of State for Energy what are the estimated volumes of radioactive waste likely to be produced by a commercial fusion reactor in terms of cubic metres per gigawatt (e) year.
§ Mr. Michael SpicerI am advised by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority that a commercial fusion power reactor of the type now envisaged might produce 10–100 cu m of radioactive waste per gigawatt (e) year. This volume is similar to that produced by a fission reactor of similar volume, but its radioactivity reduces more quickly with time.
