To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the implications for the economy of the current state of British manufacturing industry.

§ Mr. Major
The current state of British manufacturing industry is excellent, with strong growth in output, productivity and exports in 1987. We expect further healthy expansion in 1988.
